lyrics

they took to the streets
on January 25th they took to the streets
they chanted and screamed “leave! leave! leave!”
at the tyrants who ruled their land since 1981
for 18 days the masses cried out
they had no leaders, no rulers, no parties
for 18 days they faced down the world
they stared down the tanks of the army

someday all governments fall
and the tyrants who lead empires are forced to crawl
somehow the truth escapes
in the face of censorship and secrecy and media malaise

and what have I done today
nothing that compares to millions of lives
in countries far away
how am I a revolutionary?
is it desperation that drives them
or just that comfort stagnates me
while cities burn we’re so content
to watch it on TV

I cannot help but wonder what the world could be
I cannot help but wonder what the world would be

if we took to the streets!
